Somewhere between an animal and an engine. Mecha Ray draws on the way deep-water creatures move — unhurried, weightless, without a sound — and renders it in the hard language of futuristic machinery. In white the shape comes forward, closer to a specimen than a sculpture, until you are near enough to see what is going on inside.

Built from 200 precision-cut metal components, it runs on an internal motor and a gear-driven system that raises and lowers the wings in a smooth gliding rhythm. Lift the magnetic shell away and the whole arrangement is visible — cams, linkages, toothed wheels doing the work. It sits on an illuminated base with adjustable speed and brightness, and holds around four hours on a charge. Choose it ready to display, or as a kit you assemble yourself in about two hours, tools and manual supplied.
