Laphont Bloc Bouquella

Flowers are meant to be given, admired for a week and let go. On Bouquella they have other plans. A girl painted in white drifts up from the lower corner of a glossy black dial, borne aloft by a bunch of bouquets in red, violet, orange and gold, the only colour on a dark ground. Their strings cut across the dial on a diagonal and pass straight through its centre, so the hands turn on the very line that keeps her flying. With no numerals or markers, the custom dial leaves the black as open air around a small, hand-painted escape.

Created with Laphont, the piece is set in the Bloc, a Brutalist-inspired stainless steel tank 35mm tall and 27.5mm across, a slim 7.6mm thick, with stepped, polished sides. A Japanese Miyota quartz movement runs beneath sapphire crystal, on a black croc-embossed leather strap that lets the dial do all the talking. Dramatic on the wrist, easy to wear daily.

What Lifts Her Up

Bouquella sets a hand-painted girl in flight across a glossy black dial, borne upward by a bunch of bouquets in red, violet, orange and gold. Created in collaboration with Laphont on the Brutalist-inspired Bloc, it turns the most fleeting of gifts into the force that carries her.

Bouquets are how we mark the moments that matter — a first night on stage, a graduation, a goodbye. They are given at a door, carried home, set in water and gone within the week. Bouquella keeps one of those moments from wilting. It belongs to a set of three IFL × Laphont dials about the small things that carry us upward, alongside Skybound and Cloudling — and it is the most dramatic of the three, a black dial and a single white figure doing most of the talking.

  • Hand-Painted Artwork

    The girl, her bouquets and every string are painted by hand on a glossy black dial. Colour is kept to the flowers alone, so the eye travels straight from the white figure to the bloom above her.

Where the Flowers Take Her

A bouquet is one of the oldest ways we have of saying a moment matters. We bring flowers to openings, celebrations and goodbyes, and part of what makes them meaningful is that they don't last. Within a week they are gone, and the moment goes with them.

Bouquella reverses the roles. In the lower-left corner of a glossy black dial, a girl painted in white reaches up and holds on. Above her, on the opposite side, a bunch of bouquets in red, violet, orange and gold rises toward the top of the dial, and their strings run between the two on a long diagonal. The flowers that should be fragile are doing the carrying, and the figure who should be holding them is the one being held.

Nothing else competes for the eye. There are no numerals and no markers — only the girl, the bouquets and the line that joins them. The strings pass straight through the centre of the dial, so the hands turn exactly where her flight is anchored. Every element is hand-painted, and the black is left open around her as air — the kind of empty space that makes a small figure look very far off the ground.

Sculpted in Steel

Laphont was founded by a designer who wanted to draw a watch the way you'd shape a sculpture. Each case starts as a sketch, becomes a 3D model and then goes through months of refinement on proportion and weight. The Bloc is that process applied to the classic tank — a square case inspired by Brutalist architecture, with stepped, polished sides that catch the light along both edges of the dial.

At 35mm tall, 27.5mm across and 7.6mm thick, the Bloc wears slim and slips easily under a cuff. Its upright proportions are what make Bouquella work: the dial is taller than it is wide, so the diagonal from the girl to her flowers has room to stretch, and the climb reads from one corner to the other.

Inside is a Japanese Miyota 2025 quartz movement, valued for accuracy and ease — there is nothing to wind, and the watch is ready whenever you are. A sapphire crystal protects the painted dial, and the black croc-embossed leather strap keeps the whole design in one colour so the artwork stands alone. Bouquella is an official collaboration between IFL Watches and Laphont, one of three dials in the set alongside Skybound and Cloudling.
